NORSOK standards are an internationally recognised set of testing methodologies developed by the Norwegian Petroleum industry. The M-710 standard defines requirements for critical polymeric seals, seats, and back-up materials for permanent subsea use. The standard also applies to topside valves in critical gas systems.

The industry has established testing standards for sealing materials typically used in applications such as subsea control systems, valves, and drilling systems within critical environments.
